British Isles

May 9 - 22, 2021
13 Nights

Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland

The British Isles tour is an opportunity to get a glimpse at the highlights of four great countries.

Beginning in Scotland’s vibrant city of Glasgow, the itinerary travels through the south of Scotland with visits to Drumlanrig Castle, the land art of the Crawick Multiverse, the ruins of Dundrennan Abbey, Broughton House and Garden, the home of impressionist artist E.A. Hornel; the Robert Burns House and Mausoleum, Caerlaverock Castle and the nature reserve which it borders, and the Annandale Distillery.

Continuing on to the north of England to the Birdoswald Roman Fort, the best preserved of the 16 forts built to guard Hadrian’s Wall. In the Lake District enjoy a cruise on Lake Windermere, the largest natural lake in England, and a visit to Dove Cottage, home of poet William Wordsworth.

The journey to North Wales includes a stop in the Roman city of Chester. In Wales spend two nights at the Italianate village of Portmeirion in Gwynedd, where lovely villas dot the hillside above the private peninsula on the south shores of Snowdonia.

The mighty castles of North Wales, part of the “Iron Ring of Castles,” were built by Edward I in the late 12th Century during his invasion of Wales. Caernarfon, Harlech, and Conwy Castles dominate the skyline for miles.

Snowdonia National Park on the west coast is 823 square miles of diverse landscapes with glacial landforms and mountains, including the highest mountain in England and Wales, and a wealth of remote picturesque villages. The National Slate Museum explores the history of slate mining in Wales, with a live presentation within the  19th-century workshops from one of the mines.

Ferry across to Ireland for three nights in the capital city of Dublin. Enjoy a full day of independent exploration and sites such as Trinity College and the Book of Kells, the Guinness Storehouse, and the National Museum of Ireland.

Take the short journey from Dublin to Knowth in the Boinne Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and 5,000-year-old passage tomb built by Stone-Age farmers. Climb the Hill of Tara, the seat of the High Kings of Ireland, where 142 Irish kings were crowned.

Tour the melancholy museum Titanic Belfast and the nine interactive galleries. Constructed on the site of the shipyard where Titanic was built, the museum tells the story of the ill-fated ship with a tragic end on her maiden voyage in 1912.

See the Glens of Antrim, 80 miles of rugged cliffs broken by nine deep green glens. Spend a night in Belfast at the premier accommodation, The Merchant House.

Finish with the return journey across the sea to Scotland, ending in the capital city of Edinburgh.

Tour begins in Glasgow and ends in Edinburgh.
